The print you have purchased is a result of
state-of-the-art technology. There is no finer print quality on the
market today. Giclee is a sophisticated ink jet process using a
large number of inks on specialized equipment to produce exceptional
color rendition.
The inks used are
actual pigments, which means that they are far more permanent than
dye based inks. These prints will last many decades without any
fading or loss of quality, whereas dye based inks will eventually
deteriorate when exposed to ultraviolet light.
The paper used in this
print is the finest quality 100% rag content paper. There is no
wood pulp in the paper which would deteriorate in time. In short,
you have purchased the finest reproduction technology on the market
today. Properly framed, this print will retain its quality for many
decades.
In order to guarantee
its permanence, the print should be given the following care:
If you
must wrap the print into a tube, do not wrap it tightly---no
smaller than the diameter of the tube in which it came. Do not
“reverse curl” the print in order to straighten it out. There
is risk of creasing by doing so. Allow the print to lie flat.
Better yet, have the print framed as soon as possible.
Do not
allow the print to come into contact with moisture. The
ink is water soluble, just like an original watercolor, and will
run if wet.
Have
the print framed by a reputable framer, and insist on “museum
quality” or “acid free” framing materials. This is very
important. Some framers do a beautiful job on the outside and
skimp on materials such as the mat and backing boards which may
have wood pulp in them. The result is the eventual
self-destruction of the artwork. It is not necessary to have the
print “dry mounted,” as some framers may suggest. The paper is
heavy and should not ripple when properly framed. Besides,
dry mounting tends to reduce the print’s value.
The
usual framing is with a mat of your choice that is cut not to
cover the signature or print number. Most framers will be happy
to help you make a choice of the mat and frame.
Do not
hang the print where it will receive direct sunlight. The
finest material will eventually be affected by the ultraviolet
in direct sunlight.
Your print is a
“limited edition” print. The number in the series has been placed
by the artist on the bottom left side of the print. The number to
the right of the slash mark is the total number in the series. No
more prints beyond that number will be printed. The number to the
left is the specific number of the print you possess. Note that
higher numbers do not lower the value of the print in any way.
Thank you for
purchasing this print. We hope that you will enjoy the artwork as
long as the print will last---which is a very long time!
